BCEHL League Rules

- 50 Minute ice time. 3 minutes warm up, 2 x 17 minute stop time periods.

- 1-minute break ending the first period.

- Players are to attempt line changes on the fly or after a goal to keep the pace of play going.

- Icing only in the last 5 minutes of a game

- Home teams are dark jerseys, Away teams are light jerseys. If jerseys are too close in colour, away team changes jerseys. All teams should carry a dark and light jersey.

- Players are to wear full gear for their safety. Full or partial face shields are recommended.

- To prevent high scoring differentials, a 5 goal-lead cap will be placed when recording final scores. - Two (2) Points awarded for a Win, One (1) Point Awarded for a Tie to each team, No points awarded for a Loss

 

Arena Rules

- Arena rules will be provided and are to be followed as part of BCEHL league play

Team Captains / Managers

- Each BCEHL team will have an assigned team manager for ease of coordination within the league

 

Penalties and League Play

- Penalties - Minor penalties are 2 minute stop time (or 3 minutes run time if required) served in the penalty box 

- Referee decisions are final and will not be debated

- No fighting at all. Fighting will result in an ejection from the game and permanent league suspension without refund. No exceptions.

- Intent to injure will result in an ejection from the game and review by the league disciplinary committee.

- No body checking. This will result in a penalty or ejection from the game (referee’s choice)

- No Slap shots (anything above the knee). These will result in a minor penalty

- No High sticking a player (intentional or accidental). This will result in a minor penalty. If high sticking the puck, play will be whistled down resulting in a faceoff. 

- If a goalie is hit in the mask by a shot, the play will be whistled down immediately to ensure the goalie is ok to continue play. 

- Incidents and complaints shall be reported to the BCEHL league owners in writing to bluenosesports@gmail.com

- The BCEHL disciplinary committee will review all incidents submitted in a prompt and professional manner

- BCEHL League Commissioners will have final say on disciplinary actions

- BCEHL follows CARHA Hockey suspension guidelines and have been updated for this league and referenced in this rules document (see suspension guidelines section)

 

Insurance

- Insurance for BCEHL is provided by CARHA. Details of insurance are provided as part of the league registration and documents made available at all times for all registrants Incident Reporting and Disciplinary Committee

 

Spares

- Spares are coordinate by the BCEHL league only.

- Teams are not permitted to source their own players as they will not be covered under league insurance.

- Teams that are deemed to source their own player spares without league approval will subject to forfeit the game(s) in question and potential further disciplinary action at the league owners discretion.

- If a team has fewer than 10 players accepted attendance for a game, BCEHL league owners will assign spare players accordingly so a minimum of 2 line hockey can be played (2 lines of 5 players)

- All spares need insurance prior to sparing - Players from other teams may spare (play back to back) in regular season

- For playoffs, league owners will have full discretion over spares for each team. Spares will be limited to a need only basis, no spares from other teams

- Spares can only spare 9 games under the player / league insurance guidelines. Any more than 9 games is deemed a full time registration.

- Cost to spare is $20 per game

Regular season standings tiebreaker for round robin:

  • Head to head

  • Wins

  • Goal differential

  • Coin flip

Quarter-finals week (all games)

  • if tied at the 5-minute mark or anytime during the last 5 minutes go straight to a shootout.

  • 3 shooters each, if tied after 3 shooters then sudden death shootout

  • If we are kicked off the ice before finishing, we go to a tiebreaker:

  • coin flip

Semi-finals week (all games)

  • If tied at end of game, 10-minute run time sudden death OT

  • If tied after OT, 3 shooter shootout then sudden death shootout

  • If we are kicked off the ice before finishing, we go to a tiebreaker:

  • coin flip

Finals week (all games but Championship)

  • Regular rules - all games can end in a tie

Championship game​

  • If tied at end of game, 10-minute run time sudden death OT

  • if tied after OT, 3 shooter shootout then sudden death shootout

 

BCEHL Suspension Guidelines

The following are infraction and offence guidelines that the BCEHL will follow. Given these are guidelines, the league commissioners reserve the right to review any and all cases leveraging the league disciplinary committee and may adjust offences as necessary.
